MINERAL COSMETICS: THE FUTURE OF BEAUTY

amethyst

The health of the skin depends and will increasingly depend on the presence and topical administration of trace elements. Our skin (like our body) is hungry for minerals, and even more for trace elements, which we cannot produce and which are increasingly difficult to obtain from food and water. Both are indeed increasingly poor in these eternal and indestructible micromolecules, real biological catalysts, able to accelerate 10, 100, 1,000 times the biological reactions. Vitamins, proteins and carbohydrates cannot be metabolized without the enzymatic activation provided by these minerals: the vitamin C in citrus fruits, the beta-carotene in vegetables, the antioxidants in blueberries, the licopene in tomatoes, would be of little use to our bodies without these precious essential minerals. The vitality of our cells, including those of the skin, depends on trace elements that are already active in infinitesimal quantities:Ā

- calcium, essential for the action of vitamin C,
- zinc, for vitamin A,
- magnesium, for the vitamin B complex,
- selenium for the absorption of vitamin E.

WHY MINERAL COSMETICS?

Because these "precious friends" are increasingly rare, often poorly absorbed and poorly used, and because the skin, like the body as a whole, becomes depleted of minerals over the years. At the same time, we are witnessing an increase in dermatological problems and skin aging, which require care products rich in trace elements that act on all skin functions in a natural, eudermic, and non-pharmacological way. The health of the skin depends, and will always depend more, on trace elements, essential mineral salts by definition, and the most effective means of administration is the cosmetic way. These small electrically charged molecules are indeed immediately absorbed and effective at micrometric concentrations. It
is therefore logical and effective to include in cosmetics, in addition to active ingredients, copper, iron, manganese, sodium and potassium, elements that are essential for the absorption and metabolization of these active ingredients and that allow the skin to :

- to protect its DNA from free radicals,
- to protect itself from ultraviolet rays and external and environmental aggressions,
- to maintain a good level of hydration and elasticity,
- to delay cellular aging,
- to treat and repair the various disorders and problems.

Each of these elements has multiple properties, all more important than the others...

The iron

- Anti-aging oxygenator, highly concentrated in sapphire and hematite, present in amethyst, jasper, white quartz and tourmaline,
- it activates vitamin C and the enzyme proline dioxygenase which regulates collagen production.

Zinc

- Dermoreparator, highly concentrated in zinc silicate (smithsonite),
- it is the key to the activation of 300 cellular enzymes,
- it fights the formation of the most age-accelerating free radicals (AGE: Advanced Glycation Enproducts),
- regulates skin prone to impurities thanks to its bactericidal properties,
- stimulates the immune defenses,
- and repairs the damage caused by solar radiation

Magnesium

- Systemic, mental and epidermal regenerator,
- it is present in opal, red jasper, hematite and garnet,
- activator of cellular respiration and energy production, insofar as it recharges the mitochondria which are the cellular batteries of all organs and devices,
- it also improves cellular communication and metabolic exchanges.

Silicon

- Anti-wrinkle firming,
- it is highly concentrated in opal, quartz, amethyst, lapis lazuli,
- it increases the production of keratinocytes,
- it improves the structure and elasticity of the skin, while having moisturizing and healing properties,
- it stimulates, in association with iron, the hydroxy proline which is involved in the synthesis of collagen and elastin.

TEAM GAMES

But it is in the team game that the minerals of our body set up the most interesting synergies, performing daily actions, thousands of times a day and without destroying themselves:

- Cellular communication: Magnesium and calcium support the health of the skin, its growth cycle and the activity of enzymes, vitamins, amino acids and other nutrients.

- Metabolism and synthesis: sulfur, zinc, copper, potassium and magnesium accelerate the production of structural proteins of the skin (collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid, filaggrin, keratin).

- Hydration: sodium, potassium and magnesium restore and maintain a good level of hydration by promoting the production of hydrophilic molecules
such as hyaluronic acid which retains water molecules and prevents them from evaporating.

- Detoxification: Sulfur and potassium help eliminate toxins from the skin, a secondary emunctory organ after the lungs and kidneys.

- Cellular recharge: potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium ensure the ionization of cellular batteries and their electrolyte charge, responsible for skin vitality.

- Anti-oxidant: all minerals participate to varying degrees either physically or chemically in the fight against free radicals.

- Anti-inflammatory: zinc, magnesium, selenium, manganese and copper reduce and repair cellular damage produced by inflammation, redness, swelling, pain and irritation, preventing dermatological diseases and aging.

- Immunity: Zinc, manganese, sulfur and selenium work in synergy with the dermal immune cells (Langherans cells and T cells)
which are on the front line against microbial infections, DNA damage and skin diseases.

- Nutrition: calcium, magnesium, potassium and iron nourish the skin from within by osmotic action, activating the transport of blood, lymph, oxygen and fluids from the deep dermis to the stratum corneum (which is deprived of vessels and nutrients).

- Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF): Magnesium and calcium are essential ingredients in the constitution of this self-moisturizing mix of our skin, thanks to a high concentration of filaggrin that they constantly regulate and control.

- Cutaneous acid-base balance: minerals are crucial for maintaining the pH balance of the skin, which is in permanent contact with the external and internal environment (blood and lymph). By stimulating the natural processes of the skin's biology, these tiny but essential molecules are immediately recognized and appreciated by all skin types, even the most damaged, helping them to :

- recover their lost vitality, strengthen their structures and their defenses against external aggressions,
- respond faster and better to oxidative and inflammatory attacks,
- maintain the activity of endogenous repair systems,
- guarantee the necessary skin trophism, even in the most critical situations,
- delay aging.
